more presentations 3.24.15tr

Today we continueed with presentations from four groups. The first group presented on Pericles and the golden age.  Pericles was a wealthy person who loved philosophy art and poetry. he was also a strategist for the pelopennsion war. The Golden age was the time of culure, art and literatue.  ( I am pitcturing a rennaisance type of thing.) The people had more time to focus on this because it was a time of peace between the persian and peloppenisian war. It was the time that the Parthenon was built.  It was built to replace a temple previously destroyed by the persians . The golden age was the time that the unrealistic statues became more life like. it was also a time of  Drama, theater, and philosophy. The second group presented on hoplites and the triremes. Hplites were rich soldiers who could afford to buy their own expensiv armour. Triremes were navy boats built very light for extra ability to maneuver. The third group did their powerpoint on philosophy.  Socrates studied beliefs and assumptions of people. He was put to death, for not believing in the gods that he was supposed to  believe in. He had the chance to escape, but he took so much pride in greece's democracy he agreed with his sentence. The second philospher was Aristotle. He focused on the systematic concept of logic. Plato was the third philospher. He studied music and poetry at a very young age. He joined the military, traveled to italy and egypt to study, and founded the first university in Europe. The fourth and final froup presented on art and architecture. They taight us abut the three basic shapes of architecture. Doric order was a very simplistic style of column. Ionic order had very tall columns. Corinthian order was the most decrative of the three. It's columns had glowers and leaves bunhed up at the top of the column.
